Difference between Physical Activity and Exercise

Exercise

Physical activity is any movement that is done by your body. Walking, eating, and climbing stairs are all examples of physical activity. Exercise is planned, structured, repetitive, and intentional movement done for improving or maintaining physical fitness. Playing sports, cycling or working out at a gym, fall under the category of exercise.

Regular physical activities are usually not that intense to play any role in providing physical benefits. Adapting a regular exercise routine can bring revolutionary improvements in our health. The intensity and duration of exercise may vary from person to person. A common measure used for differentiating whether a task is moderate or vigorous is,to talk while performing it. If you can manage that, it is a moderate task. In case you have to stop after few words for a breath, this is a vigorous task. The results of a properly plannedexercise routine are much better than the use of steroids.

The major areas that any exercise routine must cover are:

  • Muscular Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Stamina(Cardio/Respiratory)
  • Muscular Stamina

Muscular Strength

The most common way of increasing the muscular strength is lifting weights.Dumbbells and weight machines are used for this purpose. This process is accelerated by the use of drugs like Anabolic Steroids. They are also known as androgenic steroids. The purpose of using these steroids is to stimulate the growth of skeleton muscles. These drugs have some serious side effects and hence they should be avoided. Natural process might be slow but it ensures safe and healthier life.

Flexibility

Continuous stress and strain on the body could lead to injuries unless proper stretching routine is observed. It helps the muscles to bear all the pressure. Yoga is an example of stretching routine. A proper stretching plan should be there in your workout schedule so that you could make the most of it.

Stamina

The foremost duty performed by exercise is the enhancement of the respiratory endurance. This means that you can perform aerobic exercises for longer periods of time. Aerobic exercises include jogging, running, cycling, swimming, etc.The intensity of exercises can also be increased once you are comfortable with your set benchmark.

Muscular Stamina

The ability of muscles to sustain vigorous activities also improves with time, as you continue your exercise routine. For example, running enhances the endurance of leg muscles while swimming does this for various muscles. Various weight trainings are also used to improve particular muscles.

Physical active life can help you stay fit and healthy but to bring certain improvements in our body, we need to devise an exercise program which must include all the above mentioned characteristics. At the same time, we should not look for shortcuts like Anabolic steroids and other drugs. The immediate effects of these drugs might please you but, in the long run, they can have fatal effects to our bodies. The secret of living a healthy life is to stay fit through proper diet and exercise routines.

Healthy isn’t a goal, it’s a way of Living.
